So another new year has dawned, you have things in your life you'd definitely like to change, but you know from long experience that traditional New Year's resolutions aren't going to get you very far. How to resolve this perpetual conundrum?
Why is it that three prominent books published just during the past several months focused on the subject of willpower?The first answer is that neuroscience has finally begun to open a window into the complex way our brains respond to temptation and what it takes to successfully exercise choice.
"How can I get 7-8 hours of sleep when I'm with my kids from the moment I arrive home, and I need some time for myself before bed?"
"How can I find time to exercise when I have to get up early in the morning and I'm exhausted by the time I get home in the evening?"
"How can I possibly keep up when I get 200 emails a day?"
"When is there time to think reflectively and strategically?"
